Yeah, about Mark Twain

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

This is a conversation overheard in the Financial Aid line at Tri-C (Cuyahoga Community College) yesterday. Imagine - THIS is the school where I’ll be getting a degree from:

GUY: We’ve already got a lot of homework. I’ve got to write an essay.
GIRL: Already?
GUY: Yeah, about Mark Twain.
GIRL: Who the hell is Mark Twain?
GUY: I don’t f-ckin’ know.

No shame in not knowing that either… Almost proud to not-know. It’s that Chris Rock joke only applied to chaches.

It’s not really supposed to be funny

Friday, August 19th, 2005

So, I’m going to go see The Aristocrats tonight. Wish me luck. Apparently, it’s the grossest movie ever and I’ve read into it and I believe it.

The movie is basically a documentary about this inside joke that all comics have with each other. Sort of a joke that you’re not supposed to tell to the public. The joke is called The Aristocrats and it always starts the same way with a family walking into an agent’s office and showing them their act. The act is what’s different every time it’s told and it’s also what’s the gross part. The comic is supposed to tell the joke as gross as he can (improvised). It’s not really supposed to be funny, just gross.

I debated it in my head whether or not I should see this movie but I decided I want to because of the history and story behind the joke. I love the science of comedy and this is another look at how comics work. Sort of a study for my own personal comedy journey.

I’m just hoping that I get the science and not just 90 minutes of a stupid joke.

Nintendo keeps going of course!

I just got a new shirt. I made it on zazzle.com and it’s super fresh.

Props goes to Fryguy64 at Nintendo Database for the drawing.

Everyone check out that site for an almost complete (Nintendo keeps going of course!) site on Nintendo related games and history.
